A few years ago, an era of change came to Func, and with it came a desire to redefine the gaming experience once again. In order to do this, they had to look beyond just cosmetics, and find a way to bring performance and functionality to its peak in one place. That’s where the KB-460 mechanical keyboard comes from. As Func’s first attempt at a gaming keyboard, it will definitely be a redefining moment for it to be good at what it does.
With plenty of features like full N-key roll over and the detachable palm rest, as well as being able to plug in and use right away, there is plenty to make this a great keyboard for any gamer. Let’s take a better look into these features and more.
PACKAGING AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Func KB-460 is available with switch types coming in Cherry MX Blue, Brown or Red. The keys are backlit by individual LED’s on each key and keys are of cylindrical design. As mentioned earlier, it also features full N-key roll over, which is great for rapid typists who often find themselves facing key jamming issues. Function keys for multimedia and assignment modes are built into the F-keys.
Onboard memory is 128 KB. It also has two USB 2.0 ports for extra connectivity. The cord length is 1.8m and it is braided and the USB 2.0 connector is gold plated for best connectivity. For dimensions, the Func KB-460 is 17.6in. (L) x 7.8in. (W) x 1.3in. (H). And the weight is 2.7 lbs.
The price for the KB-460 is about $120, a typical price tag of a high end keyboard such as this. For warranty length is it is covered for one year, and with registration you can extend the warranty another 12 months for a total of 2 years coverage.
The keyboard ships from Func in a simple clutter free white box.
The front of the box shows the company name and the keyboard model, as well as showing the type of Cherry MX key that the keyboard shipped with. The right side of the front is dominated by an image of the keyboard while the phrase “Functionality. Perfected.” can be read underneath the company name.
The back of the box features more details pertaining to the keyboard than the front did. The top right of the back shows an image of the keyboard that highlights 8 of its top features while the bottom right contains all of the specifications for the keyboard in a few different languages. The left side of the back contains details on the different Cherry MX keys and their stats with this keyboard as well as the Func company logo and the phrase “Response. Perfected.”
Much like the outside of the box, the contents on the inside of the box are simple. Outside of the keyboard, the inside of the box contains the instructions for the keyboard as well as the driver CD that is used to allow for more customization of the keyboard once it is installed. Both of these are in the same glossy white as the box. The box also contains the palm rest which can be attached and detached from the keyboard.
This specific model of the KB-460 comes with Cherry MX Blue keys which take more force to use, but help to prevent from accidental key strokes while typing or gaming.
FEATURES
The Func KB-460 has fully backlit keys perfect for playing in dark environments. The back lighting is adjustable to four different modes so that it can be tuned to the user’s personal preference. The lock LEDs as well as the LEDs behind each key aren’t too bright or annoying; furthermore, the red illumination from each LED works well with the keyboard’s red backplate, which can just be seen through the gaps in-between the keys.
Pictured above are the two USB ports in the top-right corner for accessible connect-through ports for other USB devices. A key feature is the 1.8m USB cable are that it is gold-plated and braided to allow for protection and longevity.
The keyboard also features stands with a single elevation level with rubber feet that lead to fairly well designed stands.
And one thing that will be very helpful for long term use of the keyboard is the palm rest that was mentioned earlier. It only takes a moment to click and un-click it to the bottom of the keyboard. This way you can rest your wrists while using the keyboard to keep them comfortable and cool while you game or type.
