At the upcoming Gamescom 2015 which is to be held in Cologne, Germany between the 9th and 15th of August, Intel is set to debut it’s new 6th Gen mainstream CPU’s codenamed Skylake. The majority of PC enthusiasts will be keeping an eye out for the new unlocked the Core i7-6700K and the Core i5-6600K CPU’s ready to overclocked just how well they perform.
We have already seen both these CPU’s with be compatible with the upcoming LGA1151 socket, Intel 100-series based motherboards. With overclocking in mind, the new Z170 express chipset motherboards will pave the way. As we have seen in our articles on the new Skylake platform, The CPU’s IMC will support both DDR3 and DDR4 memory standards, and should prove to be a transition point between the two.
With the voltage regulators (FIVR) removed from the CPU package with Skylake and back onto the board, LN2 benchers are expecting this to be a plus as may allow for better overclocking due to lower to no cold bugs we have seen before. Also anticipated is an overclocking of a quad core that supports DDR4 although how much DDR4 compared to DDR3 in benchmarks is yet to be seen.
Future releases of the 6th Gen Skylake platform will include i7-6700/6700T, Core i5-6600, 6500, 6400, 6600T, 6500T and 6400T as well as the H170 and B150 chipsets which are set for late August. Then in late-September, the company will launch the entry-level H110 chipset.
