REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
For being a card that was released back in 2012, ZOTAC’s GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition is still a graphics cards that keeps us gaming at a high level. The performance results that were seen out of brand new, in box, ZOTAC graphics card was exceptional, at times achieving greater scores than when compared to two identical ZOTAC cards in a SLI configuration. While this is more likely to be an error, it is still impressive to see the card pushing the limits. The factory over clock performed by ZOTAC is inspiring and provides performance that is exceptionally consistent.
When we bump up performance caliber by adding the second ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition, we really see the performance increase. The SLI configuration best performed when the cards were under immense stress, especially in tests set to the higher presets. Even the physics performance of the two cards together was exceptional, especially when compared to a CPU handling the physics processing. We also saw that running two graphics cards alleviated the stress on each card individually, as the surface temperatures didn’t reach nearly as high as the single card. Over clocking of the two graphics cards while in a SLI configuration would have been redundant in this case. The little performance increase that we achieved with over clocking a single card, would not significantly affect the performance of the two graphics cards.
Overall, the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition was a fun card to review. For being an older card, we were surprised at the overall performance that it could achieve, which we know is mainly due to the updated NVIDIA driver. For this reasoning, we award ZOTAC and their amped-up graphics card with Technology X’s Silver Seal!
