LEPOW MODRE Review – A Tiny Bluetooth Speaker With Big Sound

It is not often that you receive a product that comes in a cup, never mind the fact that when you power it on to give it a quick test with Coldplay – Paradise you find the audio quality to be surprising. The LEPOW MODRE is not your average Bluetooth speaker.

To give you a little bit of background information on LEPOW, they are a Asia based company that originally started back in 2011 with the Stone, their first mobile battery solution. LEPOW has since expanded their mobile device charging solutions to accommodate a variety of different shapes and sizes, as well as producing the MODRE Bluetooth speaker.

The LEPOW MODRE has a rather different shape when you consider other Bluetooth speakers, as this speaker was designed with, not only fashion, but also function in mind. The MODRE has a shape that is consistent with an elephant’s trunk, which provides a stylish exterior and allows for improved resonance and audio quality.

For the size of the MODRE, the sound is quite exceptional, especially when the device is only 89mm tall, and has a diameter of 58mm. This would be a great choice for sitting by the poolside, or out on a patio, especially with the wild colors, such as Apple Elephant, Little Flying Elephant, Tropical Elephant and Snow Elephant.

An interesting aspect of the MODRE is its weight. The small Bluetooth speaker is heavier than other speakers of its approximate size, which is actually quite convenient. The weight does not affect the portability of the device, but actually prevents the device from dancing due to higher volumes or songs with larger amounts of bass. However, after listening to a few songs that emphasize the mid- to higher range frequencies, John Mayer – Paper Doll, we switched the playlist over to the hip-hop and dance genre. To help with the desktop rattling, we placed the Bluetooth speaker on the lid of the cup that it was packaged in. This immediately allowed the speaker to emphasize the lower frequencies and the audio quality was superb.

On the backside of the MODRE, you can find the micro USB port for charging the device, the 3.5mm audio port for auxiliary expansion, and two LED’s for charging and Bluetooth indications. It also features a built-in microphone, which could allow for hands free calling.

The bottom of the speaker features an easy switch for powering the speaker on and off.

The MODRE also features Bluetooth 2.0, with a transmission range of up to ten meters, and a rechargeable 500mA lithium battery that allows for up to seven hours of playtime. The MODRE is also accompanied by a 3.5mm audio cable to allow for you to connect other mobile devices for playback, and a micro USB cable for charging the Bluetooth speaker.

The MODRE sports an accurate price point of $34.99 when checking Amazon, upon saying this it is important to note this is an excellent entry level to mid-range Bluetooth speaker. For its size the LEPOW MODRE is one of the better Bluetooth speakers we have heard to date, and one of the better looking speakers at that.
