iFamCare Helmet 1080p Full HD Monitor Review

OVERVIEW

With security and safety being one of the biggest things people are concerned about when it comes to their homes, iFamCare has come out with a very diverse smart home system that lets you have a little more piece of mind while you’re away from your home. The Helmet, as it is named by it’s shape, boasts some pretty awesome features such as two-way talking and 1080p full HD picture to name a couple. Let’s start with a walk around the products packaging.

PACKAGING

iFamCare has done a great job of presenting this product through the packaging. If you don’t quite know what the Helmet is all about you’ll have a very good idea after a quick look over the box. Showing the Helmet itself on the top of the box along with a iPhone displaying the app used to monitor your helmet. We can easily see where iFamCare came up with the name from, the main unit resembles a motorcycle helmet. With a row showing the main features and selling points of this product. Some of the features at first glance really intrigued our curiosity, such as the “air sensor”, we were quite excited to open it up and start experiencing what the Helmet was capable of. The left side of the box lists the technical features, which seemed like an endless list, device compatibility, as well as box contents. The right side displays more of the app capabilities, such as the laser patterns for interacting with your pets and the intelligent alert timeline.

CONTENTS

Once you open the top cover you immediately get a little chuckle from the smiley face telling you how far the Helmet has traveled to get to you. Beyond that you’ll open up to the Helmet itself. Taking the Helmet out you now see that it does look 100% like a helmet and all questions of where it received its name from are solved. We received a white Helmet, but they come in many colours, black and gold to add a few.There is also a box which contains the remainder of the parts you’ll need to use your new device, the mount, wall screws and anchors, power adapter and a quick start guide. This is great because when it comes to tech we always want to get to the fun part quick.

SETUP & INSTALLATION

With the help of the quick start guide this is a piece of cake. We set up the Helmet on the wall for this review. Simply use the provided screws (and anchors if necessary) to set the mount how you wish it on the wall. We then added a 64GB Patriot Micro SDXC, connected the power adapter and screwed the Helmet main body to the mount with the hand screw at the bottom. (the size of this SD card ran us into some issues later, it will be further explained in the APP section) Once you turn it on you’ll see the red light start blinking and eventually you’ll hear a little jingle. Now you’ll have to download the iFamCare app from either Google play for android devices or the app store for Apple. Once you install that open it up and register. Finally once you are registered you can click the menu at the top left and “install a new camera”. Follow the prompts and you should be up and running in minutes. During this review we relied mostly on WiFi, the Helmet does not support 5G so we were stuck with the 2.4 but oh well. If you have the ability to use the Ethernet cable we would recommend that as it will always be the fastest. Just pop off the bottom cover and click in. There is also taller stand-offs if you need to use the Ethernet port to assist with cable management.
