REPORT ANALYSIS & FINAL THOUGHTS
The overall feel of the camera was fairly comfortable to hold in your hands, especially when you are used to a specific camera’s buttons, it can be difficult at first to find the necessary buttons and features. The Nikon D7100 was relatively easy to pick up and start using, as most of the main features needed were readily available. It would have been nice to see the media preview button the right side of the camera, especially if you are right-handed.
When taking a look at Nikon’s product pages, we can see that the Nikon D7100 has a MSRP of $1149.95, and the Nikkor Lens has a MSRP of $399.95. Both of which are very moderate and decent purchase prices for there quality. When taking a look at Amazon, you could save yourself a couple bucks off the purchase price.
When trying the Nikon D7100, we found that it was easiest to keep the camera in Auto shooting mode. We like to explore all shooting modes, and preferably adjust settings in manual, but the auto mode quickly and accurately adjusted settings to provide some great photos. We did notice that in auto mode, it liked to raise the ISO setting a little to high, and manual shooting mode was necessary in some situations.
The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens is really dynamic, as it allows for a wide range of different shots to be taken. Going back to our original comment in regards to how you want to use your camera, this lens gives you the best of both worlds, allows for some great closeup and distance shots.
In general, the Nikon D7100 and the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens were a great combination for our trip to the Butterfly Conservatory. We managed to gather some excellent shots of some beautiful butterflies, and could quickly and easily adjust settings when need be. If you are looking to upgrade your current DSLR, don’t be afraid to check out the D7100 as you will not be disappointed. Technology X would like to thank Nikon for giving us the opportunity to take a look at the D7100, and graciously award the DSLR with our Silver Seal award!
