One of the hottest “must-see” events at CES every year is the Samsung press conference. Dozens of media people get turned away every year as the seating capacity is limited. Thanks to a strong relationship with Samsung, we were able to gain early access and secured a prime viewing location.
Tim Baxter, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics America, opened the show with an apology for the failings of the Galaxy Note7 (overheating issues), promising to reveal the root cause once they have concluded their analysis and confirmation of it. He then quickly moved on to discuss the successes of the past year, as well as plans for this year and beyond.
Tim discussed their continued success with Ultra HDTVs, smart home appliances, personal computing devices, and more.
He also discussed their commitment to I.O.T. (Internet of Things) connectivity, and their improved technologies in other areas. This includes Samsung “Smart Things”, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, open APIs, machine learning, Samsung Pay, Joyent, big data and more.
Samsung next introduced its new QLED TVs, offering the most true-to-life on-screen picture ever. Enjoying nearly 50% of the new TV market in the U.S. for 2016, Samsung continues to lead the way in producing TVs with amazing picture quality.
Their new Quantum Dot Technology provides peak luminance as high as 1500 to 2000 nits, with no loss of color accuracy. Color performance is maintained, no matter how wide the viewing angle.
Samsung also discussed its new lineup of home appliances, including their new FlexWash™ and FlexDry™ washers and dryers. Each of these has two separate chambers to handle two loads at once. You can wash a regular load in the full size main front-loading tub, and wash delicates at the same time in a separate top-loading compartment. Dry both loads at once in the main dryer drum, and delicates (or even a teddy bear) in the smaller top-loading compartment.
Samsung highlighted their success with their family of Hub refrigerators, and announced additional models to broaden their product offerings.
Also discussed were a new line of built-in appliances, including an oven with three separate cooking chambers.
All in all, the 2017 Samsung press conference was nothing short of breath-taking, with Samsung highlighting their ongoing commitment to innovation and technology for the home.
