Samsung Press Conference CES 2018 — Helping Consumers Realize the Benefits of a Seamless and Simple Connected Life

One of the most coveted tickets at CES every year is for the Samsung press conference, which always receives huge coverage from all forms of media, including live streaming.  Thanks to an excellent business relationship with Samsung, TechnologyX was able to be front and center for this important event.  Once again at CES 2018, there is a large presence for all things IoT (Internet of Things).  Samsung was an early adopter of this technology and has fully embraced IoT with continually evolving systems and devices.  At this year’s press conference, Samsung demonstrated its unique ability to  deliver simplified seamless connectivity for IoT-capable devices for the home, the office, and for on-the-go.

According to Hyunsuk Kim, President, Head of Samsung’s Consumer Electronics Division and Samsung Research,  “At Samsung, we believe IoT should be as easy as flipping a switch.  With the new products and services announced today, we’re making IoT easy and seamless.  We’re committed to accelerating IoT adoption for everyone and making all Samsung connected devices intelligent by 2020.  These advancement will help consumers realize the benefits of a seamless and simple connected life.”

Samsung Debuts Next Generation Family Hub Refrigerator

Samsung’s next generation Family Hub Refrigerator was a winner of the 2018 CES Best of Innovation award.  Building on the success of the previous version debuted at CES last year, the Next Generation Family Hub Refrigerator now synchronizes food storage with meal preparation.  This new version is Bixby voice control enabled, as well as integrating with Samsung’s SmartThings IoT ecosystem.

Users can perform multiple functions from the refrigerator’s screen, including seeing who is at the front door, adjusting the thermostat, checking on a sleeping child in another room, and much more.  Also new for 2018 is Meal Planner, which provides recipes for the family based on food preferences, dietary restrictions and food expiration dates.

Samsung’s DRVLINE™ Platform is a Bold Step Towards an Autonomous Future

Also introduced was Samsung’s DRVLINE™ Platform, making itself the go-to partner for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Mobility as a Serivce (MaaS) providers in the autonomous driving market.  The DRVLINE™ platform is a scalable open and modular hardware and software-based platform.  This creates a valuable solution for automakers with its ability to integrate technology into new vehicles, as well as building a foundation for vehicle fleets of tomorrow.

Samsung’s “Workplace of the Future” Includes New Interactive Digital Flip Chart

Samsung is providing a first look into its vision of the “workplace of the future” with the debut of their new Samsung Flip digital flip chart display.  The Samsung Flip WM55H fosters more collaborative digital engagement by mitigating the challenges of organizing, facilitating and recapping meetings.

Samsung’s Flip display allows for easy sharing, movement, annotation and searching.  Multiple users are able to create content simultaneously, and the Flip’s portable, wheel-based stand allows for meetings to be conducted nearly anywhere.

Samsung Announces Wall-Mountable Lifestyle Soundbar

Additionally, Samsung unveiled their new premium lifestyle soundbar, designated as the NW700 Sound+.  The wall-mountable NW700 Sound+ soundbar incorporates sound-enhancing features that include distortion-cancelling, multi-speaker control and wide-range tweeters.  These were all developed at Samsung’s Audio Lab in Valencia, California.

This monolithic soundbar utilizes three channels and slim sound technology to deliver dynamic, targeted sound to create a more immersive listening experience.

Harman and Samsung Unveil the Future of Connectivity and Autonomous Driving

Samsung has partnered with Harman to develop systems that enhance connectivity and further the development of autonomous driving capabilities.  This partnership has already yielded a reinvented digital cockpit platform for all vehicle segments that has given the interior of the vehicle a makeover.

Also announced are a new telematics solution, along with the industry’s first automotive-grade 5G-ready connectivity solution.  As well, an ecosystem of partners and solutions is being created to further build out the Samsung open autonomous platform, along with a showcase of their first implementation of this together with TTTech.

Perhaps the most amazing thing Samsung unveiled today was “The Wall.”  Samsung’s “The Wall” is a 146-inch modular TV with MicroLED technology delivering incredible definition, yet with no restrictions on size, resolution or form.  It is a self-emitting TV with micrometer (µm) scale LEDs.  These are significantly smaller than current LEDs, and serve as their own light source.

According to Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, “At Samsung, we are dedicated to providing consumers with a wide range of cutting-edge screen experiences.  As the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED television, “The Wall” represents another breakthrough.  It can transform into any size, and delivers incredible brightness, color gamut, color volume and black levels.  We’re excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology, and the remarkable viewing experience it offers to consumers.”
