Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS CRONOS AD Gaming Headphones Review

With the gaming industry constantly being oversaturated with fancier and fancier gaming peripherals it’s very easy for the everyday consumer to get confused with what to purchase. What features make or break the product? What should they spend? Fortunately enough, Thermaltake has heard everyone’s pleas and have produced one great pair of gaming headphones for the gamer on a budget: Thermaltake’s Tt eSPORTS CRONOS AD Gaming Headphones.

PACKAGING & DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

Thermaltake’s Tt eSPORTS CRONOS AD Gaming Headphones come in a simple black and red box highlighting the main features of the headphones all while sporting a window on the front so the customer may view the headphones sealed within.

The box contains the headphones themselves, two different audio cables, and a warranty card.

The mic is located on the left headphone and has a nice red LED ring on its end. Being fully retractable, it is just long and playable enough to adjust to any user’s head resulting in the best possible position for voice recording.

The CRONOS AD Gaming Headphones use a soft headband that automatically adjusts to anyone’s head negating any need to fiddle with the feel. Thankfully, the headband is relaxed enough to keep the headphones properly placed on your head without any upwards pull.

The ear cups are covered in a soft cushiony fabric for comfort during long gaming sessions. Unfortunately, we found these cups to be a little on the small and shallow side leaving our ears slightly squished within.

The exterior of the ear cups have a red LED that lights up the eSPORTS dragon logo as well as an outer ring. The other LED is located on the end of the mic.

FEATURES

Since these headphones only use regular 3.5mm stereo audio and 3.5mm microphone jacks, (the USB is just to power the lights), there is no software to install on your computer. This is a nice change from most of the headphones out there as this allows this pair to be used with any audio device from MP3’s to cellphones.

Each cable ends in the same micro USB connector that connects to the headphones but oddly the cables are of different length. The mobile cable is only one metre while the computer cable is two metres. The mobile cable, ending with just the 3.5mm stereo connector, has no inline control leaving all volume operation to the device itself. The computer cable has the inline control as well as three end connectors: USB, 3.5mm stereo, and a 3.5mm microphone jack. All three are optional and are not dependant on one another. For example you don’t have to plug in the USB to power the lights if not desired. As well you may only plug in the microphone and leave the audio up to some other external device. Of course, you may also only plug in the stereo jack and not use the mic at all if desired. This ability to plug and play as preferred leaves a nice little bit of customization for each gamer.

The inline control itself is fairly simple having just a volume control and a mic on/off switch. While inline controls are beneficial, we can’t help but wish the toggles were located on the headphones themselves. This would negate any need for an inline control at all. While proven convenient, it is much easier to find the toggles on the back of your headphones instead of trying to find the control located somewhere along your connector cable.
