OCZ Displays an Entry Level SSD & A Glimpse Into The Future – Computex 2015 Update

Continuing our travels through the Nangang Exhibition Halls, we met up with OCZ and where we were introduced to their newest solid state drive, as well as providing us with a glimpse into the future of consumer storage.

First up, the Trion 100 – an entry level SSD that provides solid performance and throughput. This Trion 100 is designed for those making their first upgrade from a HDD to a SSD. The Trion 100 is a 2.5″ form factor SSD that is equipped with a proprietary Toshiba Alishan Controller and Toshiba A19 TLC NAND flash modules.

Trion 100

The Trion 100 is listed to have throughout of 550 MB/s, 91,000 IOPS and capacities ranging from 120GB to 960GB. Better yet, the Trion 100  will feature 3 Years of OCZ’s ShieldPlus Warranty.

Below you will find preliminary benchmarks for the Trion 100, with ATTO, Crystal Disk Mark and AS SSD:

When we refer to taking a glimpse into the future, we actually are referring to the latest emerging market from the storage industry, M.2 NVMe Solid State Drives. Essentially, this PCIe based storage features extremely fast throughput, while doing so in a very small form factor and at the greatest of efficiencies. Until just recently, these drives were found in an OEM setting predominantly, but are slowly making their way into the consumer market.

RevoDrive 400

While with OCZ, we witnessed the RevoDrive 400, which is a very early prototype that we can expect to see in that later part of 2015. Based upon a Toshiba NVMe controller, it will be available up to 1 TB in capacity and reads speeds greater than 2 GB/s. Obviously, as this is an early prototype, these numbers are subject to change. At release the RevoDrive 400 will be available with and without a PCIe adapter. This is very promising to see and well worth the wait for your next storage upgrade!
