Checking Out 3D Printers With XYZ Printing – CES 2015 Update

CES 2015 wouldn’t be complete without a visit through the 3D Printing booths, for Technology X we had the privilege of checking out XYZ Printing, who unveiled the da Vinci Junior as well as the Nobel 1.0 3D printers. They also had one really interesting product on display as well! Take a read to see what we found!

DA VINCI JUNIOR

This year at CES, XYZ Printing took their iconic da Vinci 3D printer and made a smaller version, and in turn, the world’s most affordable 3D printer. The da Vinci Junior has a price-point of merely $349 and will be available in May of this year. The 3D printer is plug and play, with no assembly required. Better yet, da Vinci Junior features a calibration-free design that requires no levelling. Continuing with the hassle-free design, the da Vinci Junior also features a one click extruder which makes it easy to swap or change as well as clean the internal components of the 3D printer. With a built-in SD card slot, one can print directly from the card, meaning that a computer is not required to print anything. The da Vinci Junior uses fused filament fabrication technology and has print dimensions up to 5.9″ x 5.9″ x 5.9″.

NOBEL 1.0

Next up was a view of the latest and greatest, when it comes to 3D printing technology – Stereolithography (SL laser) technology. This laser heats a photosensitive resin, which can then print higher resolutions objects in a more complex geometry. It has been said that the Nobel 1.0 can reach a printing resolution of 25 microns. Take a look at some of the samples below:

Similar to the da Vinci Junior, the Nobel 1.0 features a plug-and-play design, and has a built-in USB drive, which allows users to print from their flash drive. Another great feature of the Nobel 1.0 is the resin auto-fill. Nobel 1.0 will automatically check resin levels, this will eliminate the need to add liquid resin constantly throughout printing. The Nobel 1.0 can reach product dimensions of 11″ x 13″ x 23.8″. This 3D printer is expected to be available in the third quarter of this year and will have a MSRP of $1,499.

FOOD PRINTER

Probably the one of the coolest things we saw at CES this year was the XYZ Food Printer, yes … you heard us correctly.

Food Printer

This food printer follows a similar concept, where you simply insert your cookie dough, for example, upload your desired printing output – let’s say a cookie – and the printer takes care of the rest! While we were attending the XYZ Printing booth we tested out a sample from the Food Printer, which tasted just like any other cookie! Below you will find the tasted cookie on the left, as well as some other samples that the Food Printer had completed earlier on the right.

XYZ Printing will have different recipes and thousands of 3D models to choose from when the printer is available, which we can expect in the second quarter of this year. You can also expect the price range to be under $2000.
