During CES 2015, Technology X stopped by Kingston’s private suite to see what was new and exciting. While touring their suite we were introduced to their new microSDHC/SDXC UHS-1 U3 card, a USB flash drive capable of backing up your data to your personal cloud storage platform and the new HyperX Cloud II gaming headset.
First up was the new microSDHC/SDXC UHS-1 U3 card. This microUSB card is designed with 4K video in mind, with UHS-1 U3 the standard has been set to that of the minimum write speed of 30 MB/s. Kingston has blown this out of the water, with read speeds up to 90 MB/s and write speeds of 80 MB/s. This flash drive would be ideal for media professionals, or even vacationers who use the GoPro Hero4 and record their vacation in 4K content. You would easily be able to upload your videos from you microUSB card to your computer with a USB 3.0 adapter. The microSD card with be available in capacities of 16, 32 and 64 GB.
Our attention then switched over to Kingston’s DataTraveler Locker+ G3 USB flash drive. With all the talk of cyber-terrorism and hacking, one can only sit back and worry about their precious personal information. This USB 3.0 flash drive offers hardware encryption and password protection, with the new option of automatically backing up the drive to your preferred cloud storage, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. This process utilizes ClevX USBtoCLOUD software, which Kingston first began working with ClevX back in 2012. This drive is available in 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB, and at the higher capacities (32 and 64GB) it can reach up to 135 MB/s read and 40 MB/s write.
Lastly we were able to check out the new HyperX Cloud II Gaming headset. A continuation from last years model, but with many improvements. With the virtual 7.1 surround sound and enhanced bass via the sound card, you really achieve an immersive experience, which would be ideal for gaming. The headphones feature a USB audio control box with built-in DSP, so there is no software required. Our trial of the headset proves that the headset is much lighter and feels more comfortable. We noticed that in creating a lighter headset, there was no compromise in sound quality. We listened to Royals by Lorde and were absolutely blown away! The headset will be shipping February 9th 2015 in three colors; Gun Metal, Red and Pink (Limited Edition). The image at the top shows the Gun Metal, where the images below showcase the two other colors.
We have been told the MSRP is $99.99, which is already an aggressively set price for what we have seen of the headset so far, this means we may even see this headset come down in price shortly after launch. Stay tuned as we will be providing you with a full in-depth review of the new Kingston HyperX Cloud II.
Kingston also showed off their solid state drives, while specifically showcasing their new HyperX Predator PCIe 2.0 x4 M.2 SSD capable of 1.4GB/s reads and 1GB/s write. For more information, we encourage you to check out our big sister site, The SSD Review.
