The next press conference we attended to at CES 2015 was with ZTE. ZTE is a giant in the telecommunications world, as they develop several different types of smartphones, internet devices and tablets. Last year at CES, they introduced the first generation of the ZTE Spro mini-projector. This year at CES, we heard from ZTE that they are the 2nd in sales for prepaid devices, 3rd in Android, the 4th largest producer of mobile devices and the fastest growing. We were told that ZTE had a very successful year and that they expect those trends to continue this year.
First to be released was the ZTE Grand X Max +, a smartphone designed to be fully functional at an incredibly low price point of $199.99. The device features a 6″HD display, 13MP rear camera, 5 MP wide-angle front facing camera, 3200 mAh battery and 4G LTE connectivity. The device will launch January 9th 2015 with alone with Cricket wireless.
Second was the release of the Spro 2, which is improvement from the first edition. The Spro 2 features an improved projector that can pump out 200 lumens at 720P, with a 6300 mAh on-board battery. We were told that the mini-projector also will be the first smart projector to have Auto Focus and Auto Keystone, it will also include an anti-glare technology that will automatically dim when someone walks in front of it. Lastly the device also features an improvement to the Android interface to make it more user friendly.
To help introduce their new Spro 2, ZTE recruited the help of former NBA Star, Clyde “The Glyde” Drexler – a ten time all-star and voted one of the top 50 basketball players.
We had the opportunity to test and try the Spro 2; the hands on experience emphasized that the ZTE Spro 2 looks to be a very promising device and has the ability to make a substantial impact in the projector market.
