First up on our busy schedule was the TCL Multimedia Press Conference. The Creative Life (or TCL) is a company that is commonly known for producing TV panels, entire TV solutions and Mobile Devices. Highlighting from the conference were the release of a 4K UHD TCL Roku TV, a 110″ 4K UHD TCL Curved TV and a new 55″ 4K UHD Quantum Dot TV.
The new version of the TCL Roku TV will build upon the previous version, but will now be upgraded to 4K UHD TV. In addition to that Roku will be integrating a 4K video streaming architecture to allow 4K content to be streamed to your TCL Roku TV. This goes in conjunction with the 12 new models of the Roku TV that are set for distribution during the first half of 2015.
E Hao then introduced the new 55″ 4K UHD Quantum Dot TV, which features Quantum Dot technology. This innovative color management solution is the next step from OLED. Quantum Dot technology utilizes incredibly small light emitting crystals that activate when stimulated by blue LED light. The color emitted by each crystal and its vibrancy is dependent upon the size of each crystal individually, allowing for access to the complete visible color spectrum. The picture below is rendering of what a quantum dot may look like.
We were told that the average HD TV only achieves 70% of recreating visible color spectrum, however with Quantum Dot, it will be able to reach 110%. The TV also features an incredible audio system that was demonstrated during the press conference. TCL has partnered with Harman Kardon to create a seamless integration. The sound quality was immaculate and it was at full volume, which is hard to believe. We dare you to try (at your own risk) to turn the sound on your TV to 100% and let us know how the quality is.
Finally, E Hao informed us of a 110″ 4K UHD TCL Curved TV, which we have been told has broken a Guinness Record. This unit was not available throughout the press conference, but remains available on the show floor. To top this all off, TCL also discussed the TV+ strategy, which helps the user to easily navigate through various contents. E Hao, the CEO of TCL Multimedia explained that he expects the TV to be smart enough that once you stand in front of the TV, it will recognize you and automatically start your favorite program or channel. This process carries over to different family members who may watch different programs at different times of the day.
